The Wilderness Act II (Capercaille)
Pen & ink, screenprint, digital pigment, 88 x 48 cm.
The capercaille was reintroduced to Scotland from Sweden in 1837 for hunting. Today all the capercaillie in Scotland originate from this Swedish stock. Prior to its extinction in 1785, it was once common and widespread, but as the forests were felled it became rare until the last pair were shot, reputedly for a royal wedding banquet at Balmoral.
